The “Road” to Everest

Before you can climb Everest, you need to get there. Below is Kevin's schedule for the journey to Base Camp in 2004.

1-2 Mar 20-21 Depart USA; most climbers and trekkers fly via THAI airlines from LAX; cross International Dateline; overnight to Bangkok.
3 Mar 22 Fly to Katmandu; transfer to Hotel, afternoon and evening free for sightseeing.
4 Mar 23 Free day; explore Katmandu's rich and diverse culture; final packing and shopping; welcome dinner.
5 Mar 24 Fly to Lukla in STOL aircraft or helicopter; meet trek staff and hike to Phakding.
6 Mar 25 Hike to Namche Bazaar at 11,300 ft.; explore Namche's village and markets.
7 Mar 26 Acclimatization day in Namche; relax and explore the village.
8 Mar 27 Contingency Day / Rest / Acclimatization.. Possible hike to Thame.
9 Mar 28 Climb to Tengboche; vistas of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam.
10 Mar 29 Acclimatization day in Tengboche; visit Monastery, attend ceremonies.
11 Mar 30 Hike via Pangboche to Dingboche at 14,450 ft.
12 Mar 31 Acclimatization day in Dingboche; day hike up the Imja Khola to Chukung.
13 Apr 01 Hike to Pheriche; visit high altitude research and medical center.
14 Apr 02 Ascend to Lobuche; trail passes through the Sherpa memorial.
15 Apr 03 Hike glacial moraine to Gorak Shep, the last outpost en route to Base Camp.
16 Apr 04 Acclimatization day in Gorak Shep, day climb to 18,300 ft. Kala Pattar.
17 Apr 05 Hike to Base Camp; establish Base Camp.
18-73 Apr 06-May 31 Schedule TBD : Climb the Mountain!
